The Society’s archives are strong
in photographic material from the late 19th century to the present.
The Kruse Collection of architectural drawings and the Deakyne
Collection of town photographs are two rich resources of the
Society.
Since our geneological holdings are very limited, and mostly pertain to the City of New Castle (not entire New Castle County records), researchers interested in New Castle family histories should begin their research with the Delaware
Historical Society or the Delaware Public Archives.
The Delaware Historical
Society, 505 Market Street, Wilmington, Delaware,
19801, maintains a fine research library and may better answer
your inquiry. Extensive genealogical records are maintained there. The
phone is 302-655-7161. Their web address is www.hsd.org. Just
access Library, then Research Services at their web address.
Other records, including wills, are available at the Delaware
Public Archives, Hall of Records, 121 York St., Dover, DE 19901.
The phone is 302-744-5000.
If you wish to use the Society’s archives for historical
research, you may visit the Society. We generally schedule Wednesdays
for research inquiries; call 302-322-2794 to make an appointment before visiting to insure that an archivist is available to assist you.
For a nominal fee, Society staff may do limited research or
searches for photographs. Inquiries are filled in 4-6 weeks.
