James Tevebaugh, of Tevebaugh Architecture and the Friends of the Furness Railroad District, will discuss style and works of Frank Furness including New Castle's Old Library which has been variously attributed to both Furness himself or his firm.

A Day in Old New Castle

America's oldest house and garden tour returns this year. The Amstel House & Gardens and the Dutch House & Gardens will be open for tours free to ticket holders from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The self-guided exhibit at the Old Library will be open as well.

Virtual Chautauqua Tent Show

The New Castle Court House Museum and NCHS will be presenting a virtual Chautauqua Tent Show with a series of speakers, theatrical and musical performances focused on women's suffrage. NCHS Director Mike Connolly will speak on Sunday about suffragists from New Castle and the role they played locally and nationally.

49th Annual Art on the Green


Art on the Green is an annual arts & craft show in Historic New Castle Delaware, in Battery Park, along the banks of the Delaware River. Over 200 artists, crafters and food vendors. Stop by the New Castle Historical Society information booth while you are at the event.

A Home in Mourning


The Amstel House is transformed into a house in mourning for the fall season. Come and learn about the traditions, expectations and superstituions surrounding death, mourning and burial in the 18th and 19th centuries. 

The mourning exhibit is included with regular admission to the Amstel House.

Hauntings in History

Hauntings in History Walking Tours

If you are brave enough to explore the darker side of New Castle's history, then join the New Castle Historical Society this October for a journey into New Castle's supernatural side. You will be guided through New Castle's darkened streets and alleyways where you will hear macabre tales of hauntings, Victorian death & funeral customs, and crime & punishment that span the almost 370-year history of this Delaware River town.

Holidays at the Amstel and Dutch Houses.

The Amstel House will be decorated for a traditional holiday celebration in colonial times, showing off a "dessert board" and featuring traditional 18th century customs during the period of Governor Nicholas Van Dyke's residency.

The Dutch House offers an experience of St. Nichol's Eve, a tribute to the legend of Saint Nicholas, Dutch patron saint.

Both holiday exhibits are included with regular admission to the museums.

Fezziwig's Ball

The Arsenal transforms into the Fezziwig house from A Christmas Carol for one night. Period clothing is encouraged, but not required.

A free dance rehearsal will be held prior to the ball.  Be sure to come over and try the dances out in casual dress!
